A Brown Sugar Jones

Whichever man said aloud that sweet things cause cavities
Has never had you in his teeth
The poor dear who believes too much sugar is bad for you
Must be hooked on those horrible artificial sweeteners
that just don’t quite measure up
No one who has tasted you
(I consider myself to be one of those so blessed)
Would be satisfied by anything,
but the real thing
Any man,
again, my speech is first person specific,
who has had his lips graced by you
Wants only the thickest, darkest, sweetest thing he can find;
To get him started in the morning
To fill his belly in the afternoon
To appease and satisfy his midnight hunger
Your delicious sweetness is all that this man craves
Your smooth taste and flavor are a filling treat to my mouth
You, my carmelized brown sugar love, are the perfect food
Better to me than the peach cobbler that you sprinkled with real brown sugar
and even the glazed ham
coated and cooked under the very same.
Yet,
there is one warning that you have proven true
Your sugar,
in all its brown, natural goodness,
is very,
so very addictive.
To my sweet tooth,
one taste is never enough
A lifetime supply could not ever be too much
No ordeal would seem too exhausting
If you
are my labor’s reward
Your taste
opens my eyes better than coffee.
It gives me an unmatched charge
That makes me want more of you,
All of you
And then some
